The Cold-Busting Smoothie
It’s a humbling experience, to say the least, watching your kid get a cold or the flu. But then again, it’s also a good reminder of the power of prevention and how important it is to stay on top of taking care of ourselves (Especially mom… because, as you probably know, moms don’t get sick days 😉 ).
Staying well isn’t just luck… it takes hard work, too. Do I enjoy organizing all of our vitamins at the start of each week? Not really. Do I want to make green smoothies every day? Not all the time. But you know what I enjoy a lot less? Wiping a perpetually runny nose until it’s raw and red.
That’s not to say because we take vitamins and eat well that we don’t get colds from time to time. But the recovery process does seem to be much shorter than it was in the past. When we do start to feel an illness coming on, we add more immunity-boosting steps (Shaklee’s Defend and Resist, extra sustained-release Vitamin C or chewable Vitamin C and steeping crushed garlic in hot water, to name a few).
I’ve also started incorporating this smoothie when a cold is making its rounds. It’s packed with so much Vitamin-C goodness and sneaks in some greens while tasting like a drink that should have a little umbrella in it and be sipped by the pool. 😉
