Kale Cacao Smoothie
Way back when I was living in Los Angeles (post-college and pre-kids), my roommate Kate and I discovered this INCREDIBLE vegan cafe down the street from our apartment (if you’re ever around NoHo, do yourself a favor and go to Sun Cafe).
At the time, kale wasn’t what it is now… so I was a little skeptical of their kale shake, though they assured it was a crowd favorite.
One sip and I was instantly hooked.
Being the kitchen all-star that she is (did I mention Kate has a doughnut business in L.A.?? Again, if ever in the area, look up Pam and Audrey’s– their doughnuts are to DIE FOR. I grant you a sugar pass to try these creative delicacies), my roomie somehow figured out (by taste!) exactly what was in the kale shake and how to recreate it.
Now that my kale shake days include a toddler, I have started adding a little more sustenance to them to fuel me until lunch… or dinner. For starters, I use Shaklee’s LIFE protein, which contains pre- and pro-biotics along with an ultra-pure, non-GMO plant-based protein. I also add in some almond butter for extra creaminess, chia seeds for an added energy boost and cacao for the antioxidants and… because I can never have enough chocolate, if I’m being totally honest. 😉

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend, blend, blend away. 🙂
